The Nueva Canarias/Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) party has denounced the overcrowded state of Puerto del Carmen’s health centre.

The health centre, located next the Post Office on Juan Carlos I, is one of the smallest on the island, yet covers an area containing 9,000 health card holders, as well as a constant flow of tourists.

NC deputy for Lanzarote, Yone Caraballo, and the party’s Tías spokesman, visited the centre yesterday, where they spoke to staff and criticised Tías Ayuntamiento’s delays in upgrading the facilities.

De León commented “According to the governing group, they are waiting for the approval of the Modernization Plan and the development of the partial plan for the area behind the current health centre, in order to acquire the land corresponding to the upper rear portion of the plot. This project has been stalled for more than six years. If this plan is not approved, the residents of Puerto del Carmen will be left without new social and healthcare facilities.”

The NC-BC party pointed out that other plots of land are available to construct a healthcare centre that would genuinely meet the needs of the resort’s inhabitants.
