The Canarian Government has displayed its plans to convert the LZ-40 road into a dual carriageway.
The road from the César Manrique Airport to Puerto del Carmen currently has one lane measuring 3.5 metres in width in each direction. The €35 million project will double the width, creating a double carriageway with two 3.5-metre lanes in each direction, a central reservation and two-metre hard shoulders.
Formal objections can be lodged within 30 days. The project will also have to be subjected to an environmental report.
Tías Mayor José Juan Cruz welcomed the announcement and said that he hoped the works would be completed “as soon as possible” in order to end traffic tailbacks on the road.
