The Canarian Government’s Emergencies Department has issued a pre-alert for rain and storms throughout the Canary Islands.

Although no official alerts have yet been issued by local authorities or the AEMET weather agency, a pre-alert serves to warn the public that alerts may be issued , and remind them of recommendations in the case of extreme weather.

Rainfall will be unevenly distributed throughout the archipelago and is expected to be of weak to moderate intensity. Islands with higher relief may suffer stronger localised rains, (Lanzarote is not one of these islands). A pre-alert for storms has also been declared for possible isolated storms.

The Department of Emergencies states that it is important to check the state of drains and roofs to avoid damage to the home and, once rains have begun, to take extreme caution when driving, using moderate speed and increasing the safety distance. Smaller roads and off-road tracks should be avoided.

AEMET is currently predicting a sunny, cloudy morning for Lanzarote on Saturday, with an 85% chance of rain in the afternoon. Sunday is predicted to be wetter, with an 85-100% chance of rain.
