Last Friday, the two sections that will form Playa Honda’s new underpass were connected after two months of work.

Last month, Cabildo Vice President, Jacobo Medina, posted a notice to Facebook that the first section of Playa Honda’s new underpass had been constructed.

Last week, the second part of the underpass that will connect the roads was laid down. Despite the good progress being made, mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, confirmed to Lancelot that the underpass will be completed by September but is not expected to be operational until the end of the year.

WHAT IS THE UNDERPASS FOR?

An idea which had been rumoured for years and wanted by residents, the underpass will cut down on the traffic issues often faced at the dreaded roundabouts the connect the two roads currently.

The project’s aim is to filter off traffic coming to the Deiland Shopping Centre from Arrecife, relieving pressure on the roundabouts by an estimated 9,000 vehicles a day.
