The first section of Playa Honda’s new underpass has been constructed this week as work for the 3.8-million-euro project continues.
Earlier this week, Cabildo Vice President, Jacobo Medina, posted a notice to Facebook that the first section of Playa Honda’s new underpass had been constructed and that the 3.8-million-euro project is expected to be completed by mid-summer.
In addition to the new underpass, Medina also shared that the Cabildo are replacing bus stops in Playa Honda with newer, larger stops with updated bus timetables.
When asked about other bus stops across the island, Medina replied stating that the Cabildo are working to replace all of the stops across Lanzarote.
WHAT IS THE UNDERPASS FOR?
An idea which had been rumoured for years and wanted by residents, the underpass will cut down on the traffic issues often faced at the dreaded roundabouts the connect the two roads currently.
The project’s aim is to filter off traffic coming to the Deiland Shopping Centre from Arrecife, relieving pressure on the roundabouts by an estimated 9,000 vehicles a day.
