This week, Yaiza Mayor, Oscar Noda, announced that Aldi will be open by January 2025. In the same press release Noda also confirmed that the Lidl in Playa Blanca’s industrial zone will be open by November this year.

For years Playa Blanca residents have complained about the lack of supermarket options in the southern resort, noting that they have to drive to Playa Honda for their weekly shops. In addition, they have complained that the many HiperDino’s in the town are more expensive and have less options compared to larger stores in other parts of the island.
It was announced early last year that Lidl would be opening in Playa Blanca’s industrial zone (on the right just before you arrive in Playa Blanca.) No dates for its completion were announced until later in the year when Yaiza Mayor, Oscar Noda, stated that it would be open by December.
The supermarket’s construction slowed, and little seemed to be happening at the site as residents questioned its announced opening date.
At the start of 2024 work appeared to resume and now the supermarket is much further along in its construction. Noda announced this week that the new Lidl will be open by November this year, much to the delight of Playa Blanca’s resident population.
With the addition of the two new German supermarket giants Playa Blanca will have more options than HiperDino and Spar. Will Mercadona soon follow?
