The Cabildo has refused to approve a tourist licence for a planned hotel in Playa Blanca for being located on land classified for use by family households.

The tourist planning department highlighted judgements by the Canarian Supreme Court that annulled a Supplementary Plan by Yaiza, meaning that the previous “Montaña Roja” plan from 1979 still applied. This plan permits one family houses or bungalows, but not hotels.

It was Yaiza Ayuntamiento who initially refused the licence, and this has been backed up by the Cabildo, which claimed “We don’t award building licences and we don’t get involved with planning. We’re only concerned whether the Tourism Law is being followed.”
