Yaiza’s Mayor Óscar Noda has registered his “surprise” that the public company Puerto Canarios has submitted a request to deregister with the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports, Medcruise.
The request was reported yesterday, and Noda claims that, if it is confirmed “it will leave Playa Blanca out of the market and seriously undermine the economic interests of Playa Blanca and Yaiza.” He has demanded explanations from Puertos Canarios and the Canarian Government.
Yaiza has intended to open Playa Blanca’s port to medium-size and boutique cruisers since it was extended but has not yet received the authorisation to do so.
If the Canaries are removed from Medcruise’s schedules, it will also affect ports in Fuerteventura, La Gomera and La Palma, and Noda claims this will damage the Canaries as a whole.
