Arrecife local police have discovered six shops selling potential cancerogenous products, during inspection duties following an EU alert.

A RAPEX alert relating to non-consumable cosmetic products was received, warning that perfumes containing lilial could still be on sale. Once a popular floral element of fragrances, lilial was prohibited from the market in the European Union and the UK in 2022 due to its high allergenic potential and possible cancer-causing properties.

Lilial was discovered in perfumes from the brands Prady and Yesensy, which had been imported from the far east. No charges have been brought, but the owners of the sales outlets have been instructed to withdraw all banned products from sale.
