The occupancy rates in holiday apartments in Lanzarote was the highest in the Canary Islands last year at 85% and the island recorded quadruple the number of overnight stays than those in Fuerteventura.

2024 was a positive year for Lanzarote’s holiday apartments as occupancy rates were recorded at 85%, followed by Tenerife with 76.6% and Fuerteventura with 71.7%.

However, the number of recorded overnight stays in holiday apartments in Lanzarote exceeded 6.7 million last year, not far behind Gran Canaria with 7.4 million, Tenerife with 8.5 million and quadruple that of Fuerteventura which recorded 1.7 million.

The data comes provided by the latest non-hotel tourist accommodation survey by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which includes flats, campsites, rural houses and hostels (excluding holiday homes.)

Non-hotel tourist establishments in the Canary Islands recorded 25.8 million overnight stays in 2024, 3.1% more than the previous year. This makes the Canaries the leading Spanish destination for this type of accommodation.

The United Kingdom consolidated its position as the leading foreign market in holiday apartments in the Canary Islands, with 16.2 million overnight stays in 2024, 2.7% more than 2023.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist establishments throughout Spain totalled 142.6 million in 2024, 3% more than the previous year. This is a new all-time record.

According to the figures published by the INE, the average price of holiday apartments rose by 7.1%, campsites by 5.2% and rural houses by 4.5%.
