Open Mall shopping centre evacuated after electrical fire

Arrecife’s Open Mall shopping centre was evacuated yesterday afternoon after a fire broke out in its electrical system.

Two to three hundred people were asked to leave the shopping centre after smoke was detected, reportedly causing emergency sprinklers to be set off in two shops.

The fire was traced to an isolated room in the north wing of the centre where electric meters and fuses were located.
