Haría will host a free event on Friday, October 30th, bringing the legends, rituals and customs surrounding the remembrance of the dead in Lanzarote to life.
The Noche de Finaos will return to Haría this Friday, October 30th.
The event is organised by the Cabildo and will be staged by Actúa Teatro. The event will take visitors through local legends, rituals and traditional customs associated with remembering the deceased.
Combining theatre and storytelling, the experience will feature characters who come to life to share their stories. Audience members will also be invited to participate, becoming part of the performance rather than simply watching from the sidelines.
Keeping the Noche de Finaos tradition alive
The Noche de Finaos has traditionally brought families together to share stories, anecdotes and memories of loved ones who have died. These gatherings were often accompanied by seasonal foods, including chestnuts, nuts and sweets, helping to preserve family histories and collective memories across generations.
Actúa Teatro’s production draws on these customs, taking visitors on a journey through traditional stories and folk beliefs surrounding death and the spirit world.
The event will begin early in the day, when visitors can view the graves of various figures. As night falls, these characters will come to life to recount their stories, creating a theatrical experience that links the island’s past with the present.
La Noche de Finaos will take place at various locations throughout Haría on Friday, October 30th. Admission is free, and the event is open to all ages.
The events usually start at around 6pm, at the Plaza de Haria. However, this year’s starting time and place are yet to be confirmed.
