The Castillo de Santa Barbara will become a museum dedicated to the history of Teguise, with an initial investment of €440,000, it was announced at a presentation yesterday.
The museum will be dedicated to the early history of the town, as the largest settlement of Maho aboriginals on the islands and its later role as capital of the island. An opening date in 2026 is forecast.
Investment of €440,000 has already been secured to install ticket offices, new lighting and security features. Accessibility will also be improved, with an exterior elevator to facilitate access to the main door of the fortress and an interior elevator allowing visitors to reach the upper artillery platform.
