The new hemodynamic unit in Arrecife’s Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital is now up and running and has carried out the first catheterization procedures on Lanzarote.

The unit expects to carry out around 500 catheter insertions and implant up to 120 pacemakers every year, saving the requirement for patients to be sent to the Dr Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria for treatment.

The unit commenced work by inserting catheters in two male heart patients aged 49 and 64 years. Both procedures were said to be “favourable”.

Oscar Morera, head of cardiology at the hospital, said the expert team would “improve treatment and guarantee immediate attention” to the people of Lanzarote.
