The cook who murdered his employer in Puerto del Carmen in August 2019 will face trial in Gran Canaria shortly.

The shocking incident happened at around 2.15 pm, when the 62-year-old cook grabbed the victim from behind and cut his throat with a knife. When the wounded man managed toi escape into the street, his attacker stabbed him again, causing his death.

The accused will be tried by jury from Monday to Thursday next week and could face up to 19 years in prison and an order to pay compensation of up to €100,000 to the victim’s family.

The incident was the last murder to take place on the island until the recent stabbing of a young man by a gang in Arrecife on 21st November.
