The Cabildo have announced that they received 73 environmental complaints during the first four months of 2024.

In 2023, the Cabildo reported a total of 175 environmental complains.

“We are improving the efficiency of our environmental department, which means that the number of complaints being processed has increased if we compare them with last year. We are thus fulfilling our commitment to regulate and sanction non-compliance committed during visits to our natural areas,” stated Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort.

Cabildo environmental councillor, Samuel Martin, highlighted “the enormous effort being made by the workers, who in addition to ensuring that our environment is respected, handle complaints that are the responsibility of other administrations and are responsible for managing applications for the development of various activities in protected areas.”

Of the 73 complaints received this year, 29 were related to illegal constructions and 26 were related to parking/driving off of designated trails in protected areas.

13 of the parking/driving offences were reported near Las Grietas (between Tías and San Bartolomé) and the remaining offences were reported near Charco de Los Clicos and Los Ajaches.
