Four rubbish containers were burnt in San Bartolomé’s Calle Almud on Friday morning, damaging two cars parked nearby. Another container was also later set alight in Arrecife.
These are the latest instances in a recent spate of arson attacks against plastic rubbish containers, mainly in Arrecife.
Container fires are a constant problem for the island’s fire services. Last year, 230 containers were burnt. In October 2022 a 41-year-old man suspected of destroying more than a hundred containers was arrested in Yaiza.
