The Citizens’ Network of Support for Migrants has strongly criticised the facilities provided  for arriving pateras that saw several migrants forced top remain on Arrecife’s pier because the temporary holding camp behind the capital’s police station was flooded.

The network criticised the “improvisation” that led to the establishment of a “provisional infrastructure that doesn’t meet  basic standards to receive people” and led to migrants waiting on the pier in a rainstorm for transport to other islands.  It stated that there were several places that could be used to host migrants, such as sports centres, social centres or hotel complexes “such as would be done immediately if residents or tourists were affected.”
