The Hotel Melía Salinas has now closed for renovations and will re-open in the summer.
The iconic hotel, designed in the 1970s by architect Fernando Higueras with the assistance of César Manrique, is installing two new restaurants and a spa, as well as carrying out other reforms.
A skeleton staff will continue to carry out general maintenance duties at the hotel, while other workers have been placed on ERTE (furlough) schemes.
The hotel is scheduled to re-open in later May or June.
