San Bartolomé council has finally demolished the building that was once the Discoteca Maui in Playa Honda.

The building had been abandoned for decades and was mainly noticeable for the graffiti that greeted motorists leaving the Playa Honda industrial zone to join the main LZ-2 road.  The ruined disco had become a clear obstruction to San Bartolomé attempts to smarten up the industrial zone with a new colour scheme.

The responsibility for demolishing the building had been the subject of controversy for years, with San Bartolomé Council and the Cabildo both claiming the other party bore the responsibility. Once San Bartolomé assumed the project, the owners of the building attempted to place an injunction, but this was finally rejected.

The Maui disco was apparently popular night spot in the 1990s. If you ever had a boogie there, let us know.
