Employees who work directly with visitors at Lanzarote’s Centres for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) will once again wear the iconic uniforms originally designed by César Manrique, with the rollout expected to be completed before the end of the month.

The uniforms have already been reintroduced at Islote de Fermina and Cueva de los Verdes. According to CACT chief executive Ángel Vázquez, the remaining centres will begin adopting them from next week.

Vázquez described the uniforms as “a living testament to Manrique’s creativity and the identity not only of the Tourist Centres, but of Lanzarote itself.”

The updated garments have been produced using modern, sustainable and breathable materials designed to improve comfort for staff. The César Manrique Foundation provided guidance during the redesign process, a contribution that Vázquez publicly acknowledged.

Traditional Colours and Designs Return

Several centres will see the return of their historic colour schemes and styles:

  • Jameos del Agua and Jardín de Cactus: head waiters will wear lilac uniforms, while restaurant staff will wear orange.
  • Montañas del Fuego: the classic white shirts featuring a volcano emblem on the chest are being reinstated, with head waiters dressed in red.
  • Mirador del Río: restaurant staff will wear blue, while the maître d’ will wear lilac.
  • Monumento al Campesino: the traditional outfit, including a shirt with a maho-style collar and a sash at the waist, will return.

The revival extends beyond hospitality staff. Uniforms inspired by Manrique’s original designs are also being reintroduced for bus drivers, parking attendants, security personnel, ticket office workers, gardeners, cleaning staff and shop employees.

The initiative forms part of a wider effort to preserve and highlight the artistic legacy of César Manrique across Lanzarote’s flagship visitor attractions.
