Lanzarote is a small island, but it has a big heart, and as Christmas approaches, we’ll be seeing plenty of charity fundraising activities, as well as the collections of food and toys that take place every year.

Plenty of residents feel the need to give something back to the island they love, and every single charitable organisation on the island is more than willing to accept a helping hand, whether it is donations, volunteering or simply spreading the word.

Charity organisations can be divided into three categories: those that tackle social issues; those that seek to support individuals and families with particular health or disability issues; and animal charities.

Each of these organizations is usually formed by people with direct experience of the issue they are seeking to tackle, making them more knowledgeable, agile and adaptable than government departments (which often provide funding to them).

Below is a list of many of the main charities that are operating in each of these fields. We’ve focused on associations that tackle issues on the island, and we’ve provided a contact for each one.

Whether you need support or help or want to offer your own time and resources to lending a hand, Lanzarote’s got your back.
