Yesterday we hopped onto the new ferry that Lineas Romero has introduced to its service between Playa Blanca and Corralejo.
The Don Juan is a smart new addition to Lineas Romero’s fleet – a 31-metre boat that can cross the Bocaina Strait in 30 minutes, and does so ten times a day.
You can choose to take the sun and watch out for flying fish on the upper deck or stay cool in the enclosed lounge area, with a cafe. There’s capacity for 350 passengers, although there were far fewer than that on our voyage.
As a passenger ferry, mooring and disembarking is a lot faster than on the larger car ferries, and it’s probably the most efficient way to get across the strait rapidly if you don’t need a vehicle.
And it’s that efficiency that is the selling point of the new ferry. Lineas Romero started the route with the Princesa Ico, a glass-bottomed boat that was slower and aimed at leisurely day-trippers. The Don Juan, on the other hands, gets you there fast and in style, without losing any of the sheer joy of the crossing.
