A white wine from Lanzarote has been awarded a Gold Medal at the 10th National Wine Competition for Small Designations of Origin, with Bodegas Martinón’s Martinón Blanco 2025 recognised among the best wines in Spain.
The competition, organised by the Pequeñas D.O.’s Association, held its final judging on 3 July at Madrid’s Recinto Madrazo.
Martinón Blanco 2025 received its gold medal in the young, unaged white wine category, earning Lanzarote’s only award in this year’s competition.
Canary Islands Dominate the Awards
The Canary Islands enjoyed an outstanding performance overall, collecting 17 of the 26 awards presented, representing more than 65% of all medals awarded.
The archipelago also secured five of the six Grand Gold Medals, alongside 12 Gold Medals, highlighting the growing national recognition of Canary Islands wines.
The El Hierro Designation of Origin (D.O.) was the most successful, winning seven awards, followed by Tacoronte-Acentejo with four. The Canary Islands D.O. and Abona D.O. each received two awards, while La Gomera and Lanzarote each claimed one.
Among the competition’s highest honours, El Ancón Tinto Joven 2025, produced by Bodegas Insulares Tenerife, achieved the competition’s highest score of 95 points and was awarded a Grand Gold Medal.
