Lanzarote-based ferry operator Líneas Romero has officially unveiled two new vessels, the María Rosa R. and the Juan Jorge R., as part of its ongoing fleet modernisation programme aimed at improving efficiency, passenger experience and sustainability.
The naming ceremony took place at Marina Lanzarote and was attended by representatives from the Canary Islands Government, Lanzarote Cabildo, local municipalities and the maritime and business sectors.
With the arrival of the two vessels, 85% of the company’s fleet is now less than eight years old, continuing a renewal strategy that has already seen the addition of ships including the Juanita Cat, Don Juan R., Alexandro R., and most recently the Luis R.
As is tradition for the family-owned company, the new vessels are named after members of the Romero family, honouring siblings Juan Jorge and María Rosa.
Improved Services and Greater Capacity
The María Rosa R. will operate on the company’s excursion services, particularly trips to Papagayo and sunset cruises. The vessel has been designed to improve passenger comfort with spacious panoramic decks, better accessibility and a more streamlined digital boarding process.
Meanwhile, the Juan Jorge R. will strengthen the regular ferry service between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. With capacity for 350 passengers, it will increase both passenger and freight transport capacity while improving connectivity between the two islands.
