Lanzarote is the sixth most popular December destination for Spanish holiday-makers, according to jetcost.es.
Many Spaniards use the Christmas break or the puente (long weekend) in early December to take holidays, and the company estimates that 71% of Spanish nationals are considering a holiday this year. Another 9% have not made up their mind.
The most popular destinations are the big cities and the Canary Islands. Madrid and Barcelona take first and third place, almost certainly because of their shopping opportunities and events, while the larger Canary Islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria are in second and fourth place. Seville, famous for its beauty and traditional celebrations, is fifth.
Lanzarote is in sixth place, ahead of Malaga, Vigo, Bilbao and Fuerteventura.
