Canarian President Ángel Victor Torres yesterday claimed that Lanzarote was leading all other islands in terms of post-pandemic recovery.
Addressing the Reconstruction Forum held at the Castillo de San José in Arrecife, Torres pointed out that Lanzarote was “the fastest recovering of all the islands”, although he also pointed out that it had been the worst-affected.
At the end of March, 4,901 businesses were operating on Lanzarote. 1,876 of these in Arrecife and 1,039 in Tías.
Torres linked the recovery here and on other islands to the Canarian Government decision to distribute €1.15 billion of emergency funds during the worst moments of the pandemic.
Cabildo President María Dolores Corujo also the addressed the event, claiming that “figures show we have now left the crisis behind”. However, Corujo pointed out that there was still some ground to be covered before the island returned to pre-pandemic figures.
