A total of 230 wines from 60 wineries have participated in this year’s Agrocanarias Wine Competition, organised by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality, and hosted at the Jameos del Agua.

The competition, which was hosted across three days at the stunning Jameos del Agua in the north of the island. A total of 230 wines were tasted from 60 different wineries in the Canary Islands – 161 from Tenerife, 23 from La Palma, 16 from Lanzarote, 10 from Gran Canaria, 8 from El Hierro, 7 from La Gomera and 5 from Fuerteventura.

There are twelve different categories in which the wines have been organised, which includes young dry whites/barrel-fermented whites (87), young reds/barrel reds (68), semi-dry (7), semi-sweet (31), sweet (8), sweet malvasías (4), dry rosés (13), tea (1), sparkling (4) and aged (7).

As for local Lanzarote wines entered into the competition there were sixteen submitted from eight different wineries.

Blind Tasting

The participating wines are blind tasted by a panel of 22 judges who will determine which wines are awarded the grand, gold and silver medals, as well as the special distinction of Best Canary Islands Wine, Best Wine Chosen by the Winemakers of the Canary Islands, Best Image and Presentation, and Best Organic Wine of the Canary Islands 2024.

The award-winning wines will all be presented with official medal stickers that can be proudly displayed on the bottles.

The best wines will be chosen and announced this Friday, April 19th, and announced later online.
