Lanzarote had 5,157 registered businesses in 2025, the highest total in its history.
The number of businesses registered with Social Security on the island has increased steadily since a sharp drop during the Covid pandemic of 2020, when over 500 businesses were lost, and is now higher than it was in the years immediately prior to the pandemic. All the island’s municipalities have seen an increase apart from Tías, which has 1,095 businesses – 50 fewer than were registered in the year 2017; and San Bartolomé.
4,249 are small businesses with 1 to 9 employees, and the service sector accounts for the vast majority of businesses with 4,430 enterprises. The second most important sector is construction, with 454 related businesses.
1,875 businesses are within the tourist sector, with restaurants accounting for 1,070, 325 businesses are involved in transporting passengers by road (the Cabildo’s data informs us that no businesses are related to rail travel), while hotels and other accommodation account for 239 business.
