Lanzarote’s cheeses have once again returned with medals at the latest edition of the World Cheese Awards held in Viseu, Portugal.
Over 4,000 cheeses from 47 participating countries were present at the most recent World Cheese Awards held in Portugal, which were judged by a jury made up of 250 experts.
Local queseria (cheese dairy) Finca de Uga returned with six awards this year for their Vulcano, Bodega cabra y oveja, Rojillo, Alegranza, Bodega de oveja and Don Nicolás cheeses.
Additionally, Queseria El Faro won three medals for its queso de cabra tierno ahumado, queso curado pimentón and queso semicurado gofio cheeses, while Queseria Montaña Blanca won two medals for its Guatisea semicurado and queso semicurado untado con pimentón cheeses.
Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulated the island’s queserias, stating “This success not only highlights the quality and authenticity of our cheeses, but also highlights the effort and dedication of our artisan cheesemakers. Lanzarote proves once again that it is a benchmark in the production of excellent cheeses.”.
“The union and the commitment to tradition and innovation have been key to achieving these results. The Cabildo will continue to support AQUAL and our cheese dairies so that they continue to be an example of quality within and beyond our borders”, Betancort added.
