The Cabildo has launched a new bus link directly connecting the island’s communities to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. The new 4H bus route runs between the Arrecife Interchange and the General Hospital, significantly improving access for patients, visitors, and staff.
The service is designed to reduce reliance on private vehicles and eliminate barriers for residents from all municipalities, particularly those living further from the capital. It provides a direct and regular connection to the island’s main referral hospital.
Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that the new route “represents an important step forward in our commitment to the improvement of public services, guaranteeing more comfortable, safe, and efficient access to the island’s only referral hospital for thousands of people who use it on a daily basis.”
He further emphasised that “this action meets technical and social criteria and responds to a real demand from the public, reinforcing the role of public transport as an essential service that contributes to the quality of life of the population.”
The Councillor for Transport and Mobility, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, explained that line 4H “is designed as a connection and transfer line that will effectively link the interurban lines in the north and south with the General Hospital, improving frequency, travel times, and user comfort.”
Jiménez highlighted the critical need for the route, noting that “the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital serves a population of more than 152,900 health card holders and has a high level of activity, with more than 207,000 outpatient visits and more than 70,000 emergencies per year, which made it essential to adapt public transport to this reality.”
Service Details
The line began operating on January 2nd and runs Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Buses depart every 25 minutes. The first service starts at 7:30 am, with the final departure at 9:25 pm. The route originates at the Arrecife Interchange, passing the courthouse, the Arrecife Bus Station, and the Public Library on its way to the General Hospital, before completing the return journey to the Interchange.
