The Cabildo’s Public Works Department has transferred €7.5 million to the Island Accessibility Plan, which seeks to “guarantee equality of access and eliminate physical barriers on Lanzarote.”

The funds will be distributed among the seven municipalities of Lanzarote on the basis of population size, with the capital Arrecife receiving €2.2 million. Tías and Teguise will both receive around a million Euros, while Yaiza will get €836,000.

Public Works councillor Jacobo Medina said “Accessibility is not just a question of infrastructure, it’s a question of rights. With this plan we want to get rid of obstacles and open pathways to a fairer and more inclusive society.”
