Lanzarote business leaders explored future export opportunities with San Antonio this week – at a meeting between the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, Society for the Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote, Honorary Consul of Spain in San Antonio and the Mayor of San Antonio.

The event, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, was attended by José Valle, president of the institution, Héctor Fernández, CEO of the Society for the Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote (SPEL), Steve Chiscano, Honorary Consul of Spain in San Antonio, and Ron Nirenberg, mayor of San Antonio, Texas.

During his speech, José Valle highlighted the Chamber of Commerce’s firm commitment to opening new markets for Lanzarote businesses, focusing on the United States, and particularly Texas. “Today, we have the opportunity to continue strengthening ties between our communities, exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the economic, tourism, and commercial spheres. This is simply the result of the governance model based on public-private partnerships between the Lanzarote Cabildo and the Chamber of Commerce, which allows us to promote strategic projects for economic development,” Valle stated.

Héctor Fernández outlined Lanzarote’s tourism strategy in the US and Texas markets, “The tourism strategy that Lanzarote will deploy in the US market can support the entry of the island’s products into this market, in addition to contributing to better positioning the destination’s brand through the quality of these products. This strategy will focus on certain cities in this country with air connections to the main European hubs, mainly on the east coast, and San Antonio is one of them, which enjoys very favourable economic conditions, in addition to the deep historical ties that exist.”

The meeting also served to analyse the current economic outlook in Lanzarote and the opportunities offered by Texas as an export destination, a topic addressed by José Valle and Steve Chiscano.

Finally, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg reviewed the economy of the state of Texas and reaffirmed his interest in strengthening the historical and economic ties between both territories.

The event brought together a large group of businesspeople from Lanzarote, especially from the agri-food and wine sectors, who showed a notable interest in accessing the US market.
