Just over 1,000 babies will be born on Lanzarote in 2024, showing a slight drop in the birth rate on the island.
The Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital attended to 843 births up to the end of October, 15 of which were twins, meaning that 858 new babies arrived on the island in the first ten months of the year.
This is fewer that last year’s total and means that an average of 86 babies are born each month on the island.
The island’s highest birth rate was experienced in the years of 2007 and 2008, just before the economic crash, when 120 babies a month were born.
