Lanzarote’s Centres of Arts, Culture and Tourism (CACT) have announced the purchase of six hybrid buses that are expected to start operating on the Ruta de los Volcanes in Timanfaya next year.

The buses cost €1.57 million, €350,000 less than the budget, and will be provided by EvoBus Ibérica, from Cantabria in Spain. However, their purchase was ordered after the failure of a plan to instal driverless buses on the route.

Each of the buses will travel around 120 kms of circuiits each day. The existing buses, now getting rather old, will be phased out once the hybrids come into operation.
