Playa Blanca will once again host the Handbike International Lanzarote race this March, with two races of different distances to take place on the 7th and 8th.
The latest edition of the Handbike International Lanzarote returns to Playa Blanca next month, on March 7th & 8th. This year, for the first time ever the event is valid for the Spanish Paracycling Road Cup (allowing for the addition of tandem bikes and adapted tricycles) – which means the sunny southern resort will see the arrival of the Spanish Paralympic team.
On Friday, March 7th, the time trial between Salinas de Janubio and Playa Blanca, a route of about 7.5 kilometres, will take place. On Saturday, March 8th, the 2-kilometre circuit throughout the main streets of Playa Blanca town will take place, where handbikers will reach peak speeds along the Avenida Papagayo.
Yaiza mayor, Oscar Noda, stated “Our municipality of Yaiza is committed to adapted sport and inclusion and we are convinced that we all, the whole society, must make more efforts to integrate people without discrimination of any kind. The promotion of equal opportunities is a priority objective of Yaiza.”.
Yaiza’s sports councillor, Ángel Lago, added that “in Playa Blanca we have an extraordinary elite athlete as a neighbour, such as Jonas Van de Steene, Paralympic medallist in Paris 2024 representing Belgium. Jonas is one of the great figures of the Handbike International Lanzarote.”.
Registration opens on Wednesday 5th February and closes on 5th March on the website www.summitsportsevents.com.
