Arrecife Mayor Yonathan de León has suspended the tow-truck service in the capital and assumed responsibility for the area after a conflict of interest was discovered in the contract award.

The dreaded grua is feared by motorists but is a vital service for removing badly parked cars and keeping streets clear. However, the service will be suspended in Arrecife after it was discovered that the company who won the contract earlier this year, Click Asistencia, was under the administration of a local police officer.

De León also relieved his second-in-command, Coalición Canaria councillor Echedey Eugenio, of responsibilities for contract awards, saying “in view of the urgency of this case, and to verify due practices that avoid any type of fraud, favouritism or corruption, the contracting powers delegated to Councillor Echedey Eugenio have been taken over.”
