Costa Teguise will hear the sound of clacking wood and lively conversation every Wednesday from 20th November until May, as the resort hosts the annual Abuelos Conejeros (Lanzarote Grandparents) Canarian Wooden Bowls tournament.
The tournament is the most popular event involving native sports on the island, and 136 teams of over 60s – 68 mens teams and 68 women’s teams – will participate.
Matches will take place in an area adapted with bowling pitches near the Los Zocos hotel, and will take place each Wednesday from 4.15 until 6.15.
The tournament is a wonderful spectacle, with good humour, keen competition and teams from all over the island, many wearing their distinctive colours.
