Global coffee prices shoot up

The price of a cup of coffee could rise by up to 20 cents following a “perfect storm” of factors that have raised the global price of coffee.

2024 saw coffee prices rise by 70%, and further rises are expected, driven by drought and heavy rains in producer countries such as Brazil and Vietnam, the strength of the dollar, the Red Sea crisis, and EU regulations against deforestation.

As a result, a 250g packet of coffee could rise from around €3 to €3.60 and a coffee in a bar, which usually varies between €1 – 1.50 could increase by 15-20 cents.
