A fascinating video has been released calling locals to attend the April 20th demonstrations against over-development and mass tourism on all eight Canary islands.
The video uses the whistled “language” of La Gomera, silbo gomero, to summon people to the demonstrations. Subtitled in Spanish, it is possible to hear the similarities between the whistled phrases and their Spanish equivalent.
Filmed on the seven main islands, the video demands “Stop speculation” Limit tourism! Change our model! Tourist tax now! Defend our people and land!”
Yesterday it was announced that a further demonstration will be held in La Graciosa, meaning all eight islands will see protests this Saturday.
