Four pateras containing 160 migrants were intercepted off the coasts of Lanzarote yesterday.
Three of the boats were picked up in the early morning – first, one off the coast of Órzola, then two hours later an inflatable vessel containing over 100 people 34 miles south of Arrecife. One more boat was detected 14 miles south of Puerto del Carmen at 6.30 am. The final boat, containing 14 people , was intercepted later in the day.
The boats were escorted to the main pier in Arrecife and four of the occupants were taken to hospital for treatment. All occupants of the boats were of Moroccan origin.
The arrivals coincide with calmer weather following the end of the rough seas of last week.
