Fiestas are currently taking place in several parts of Lanzarote to celebrate the Virgin of Carmen, the patron of sailors and fishermen, whose feast day is the 16th of July.
Fiestas in honour of the Virgin of Carmen are traditionally held in Playa Blanca, Arrieta, La Graciosa, Teguise, La Santa and the fishing barrio of Valterra in Arrecife. The festivities usually include sporting events, concerts, cheerful carnival music and a parade.
Puerto del Carmen also honours the same virgin but does so around the second weekend in August.
Tahiche is also currently holding fiestas in honour of James the Apostle and St Anne, while other fiestas are scheduled in Guatiza, Conil and Masdache.
