The European Commission has proposed increasing the cost of the ETIAS scheme from €7 to €20.

The ETIAS scheme will apply to all non-EU visitors entering the European Union area, including British holidaymakers. The proposal to increase the fee will require approval by the EU parliament, but the new price is already being published on the EU’s ETIAS website.

The ETIAS scheme is due to come into operation in “the last quarter” of 2026 and will need to be renewed every three years. Its British equivalent, the ETA, is already in place and requires non-UK visitors to pay £16.
