Guardia Civil officers have confiscated two Eagle Owls from a woman in Costa Teguise, who was not keeping them in adequate conditions.
Officers from Seprona acted after various reports that a woman had been seen walking with two owls in the resort and posing for photos with tourists.
Documentation provided by the owner of the owls showed that one of the birds had been acquired after the animal welfare law of 2023, which forbids their purchase. The owner also said she was keeping the birds in her bedroom, and that she was not registered on the zoological register that requires such birds to live in adequate conditions.
On veterinary advice, the owls are being cared for at Rancho Texas until a decision is made on their future.
