The 35th anniversary of the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital was celebrated last night at the auditorium in Jameos del Agua.
Canarian President Fernando Clavijo, Parliamentary President Astrid Pérez, Health Minister Esther Monzón, Lanzarote Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort and Pablo Eguia, head of Lanzarote’s health services, were all present at the event, which celebrated the anniversary of the hospital that opened in 1989 and has carried out more than 210,000 operations.
When the hospital opened, around 200 workers were based there, that number is now 2,500 and the hospital has 292 beds, nine surgeries, five maternity units and 52 outpatients clinics.
Last year, the hospital dealt with more than half a million consultations, among them over 70,000 in the emergency department. Just over 10,000 people were hospitalized during 2023.
