To celebrate the occasion, 58 medical professionals who were part of the first team that inaugurated the hospital and who are still working there to this day gathered for an event organised by the current director, Pablo Eguía.
The hospital was inaugurated as the General Hospital of Lanzarote on April 14, 1989. In 2008 the hospital was renamed to the Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital in honour of the man and local hero himself who devoted his life to fighting illness and saving lives.
