Conor Donegan, who we interviewed with his brother Dylan in our February magazine, was the champion of the Quemao Class surfing competition in La Santa earlier this week.
Conor dominated the competition from the start, using his experience of Lanzarote’s most famous break to beat French surfer Joan Durú into second place.
“From the moment the championship started, I felt great,” said Conor. “Before it even began, I had a feeling the title would stay on the island, and I hoped I could take it home. I felt very comfortable; I know where to position myself and which waves to choose. What I didn’t expect were these results, and honestly, I’m speechless. I want to thank all the locals; this prize is theirs too, because they’re the ones who helped me.”
The bodyboarding title was won by another Canarian, David Pérez from Tenerife. The Quemao Class event has been quailed as a huge success, after the contest was cancelled last year due to poor weather conditions.
