A tonne of cocaine was unloaded at Arrecife’s commercial port yesterday, after being discovered on a Guyanese fishing boat sailing near Cape Verde.
Six crew members – four Guyanese and two Albanian – were arrested after the customs patrol boat Fulmar noticed that the fishing boat Mathieu was sailing without a flag. The Guyanese authorities were contacted and authorised the search of the boat.
During the search, 40 large bales of cocaine were discovered hidden under the deck.
