The pilgrimage to Famara’s clifftop to honour the Virgin de las Nieves took place yesterday in mist and cloud.

Pilgrims gathered in Teguise in the afternoon before hiking six kilometres up the ridge to the highest church on the island, the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves.
Many wore traditional Canarian dress, and at the church there were folk dances and music, as offerings were made at the church.
The high winds and fog meant that the image of the virgin was not paraded around the church as usual.
However, many will return to the church tomorrow morning on the 5th August, the actual feast day of Our Lady of the Snows, when the image of the virgin will be paraded once again, weather permitting.
