The Chacón group of supermarkets, based on Lanzarote, has voluntarily reduced its working week to 35 hours with no reduction in pay.

The pioneering agreement has been reached with the assistance of the UGT union, and will affect 130 workers, with the hour’s reduction being adopted progressively over the next year.

The legally-established working week in Spain is 40 hours, although the Spanish government is currently in the process of reducing it to 37.5 hours.

Chacón was founded over one hundred years ago in Arrecife, specialising in meat products, and currently has five supermarkets on the island, three in the island’s capital and one each in Playa Honda and Tías.
